5 things about my dad, cary buchanan, from his mom, dorothy buchanan, my grandma

Cary was born June 29th 1945 at St. Vincents Hospital in Portland, Oregon

1-When he was pretty little but old enough to ride a tricycle, he rode 8 or 10 blocks to what was then downtown Woodburn by himself without my knowing it, and i was pretty scared till i found him.

2- In 1948, Cary 3 years old was climing a bulls eye Coca Cola sign in the warehouse that was in a crate and it fell over on him breaking his leg. He wore a cast for 6 weeks. I pulled him around in a red wagon because he and the cast were too heavy to pack very far. He scooted around pulling the cast till he wore a whole in the back part of the cast. Dr. pached it with toungs depressers and more tape, and away we went again.

3 - When Cary was 5 years old he started taking piano lessons and took till he was out of Hi School.  He is now in his early 60ies and still playing the piano, and we all Love it.

4 - In Hi School Cary and 2 other boys had a Band. They were invited to go with a Politician in an Air Plane, Barnstorming. They would play, and the Politician made his speach. They went to  Eastern Oregon for several stops.

5 - In Feburary of 1968 Cary married Marilyn Beard of Portland after 4 years in the Air Force. They came to Salem to make their home--two children were born Scott and Laura after many years of teaching school they are now both retired, oh yes, Cary went back part time to teach music to Elementry Students which he likes very munch.    Cary also spent several years counseling.
