the totem project

this project is of course inspired by the idea of spiritual totems which can serve as personal symbols meant to inspire good living.

go to your local lumber yard and purchase an eight foot 2 by 4. cheap ones should not cost much more than 2 or 3 dollars. but of course purchase whatever you want. (i recommend 52nd avenue hardware, 8 blocks south of woodstock on SE 52nd avenue. my uncles and grandfather own and operate this mom and pop hardware store.)

take this piece of wood home with you.

take as much or little time as you want thinking about how to create a meaningful totem. you can paint it white, and start from there, leave it as it is, write all over it, add images to it, paint it any color you want...it's up to you.

then, lean it in your house and live with it as a personal symbol for yourself and others, or lean it out in nature, or in the city somewhere...again, it's up to you. keep it for yourself, leave it as a gift to the world, or enjoy an hour of people watching as pedestrians pass it by.

i will be making several of these myself, and will post them to this collection. with the totems i create, i will put them in my own house as spiritual symbols, take them to the city to place in various places and see how people react, and also possibly show them in a gallery as art.

i also recommend that you spend some time meditating while gazing upon your totem.
